My name’s Richard Cunningham. I’m the CEO and founder of Blendery, a software development company.

Salesforce makes it very easy to build things and that’s good news, but it can also be bad news because people create things on the fly. And we did that a lot at the Olympics and the World Cup events with Coca-Cola. When somebody needed a field or something on site, there’s no questions asked. We kind of threw out the business analysis rules and we accumulated a lot of stuff.

After the events were over, we’d say, ‘well, how much of this stuff we’re really going to use or do we need anymore?’.  When we finished up these programs with Coca-Cola, it came time to document. Now I know you’re supposed to document as you go along, but we had a thousand fields, for example, in this app suite. I had to go through and document them, but I didn’t know which fields had descriptions, which ones didn’t. And the only way I could have known, pre-Elements, was to go through page by page, like a thousand pages to see where I had field descriptions where I didn’t.

But, Elements showed me which fields had descriptions, which ones didn’t. And we could actually go back to Coca-Cola and say, okay, we’ve got 99% of the fields documented. And they thought that was awesome.

Once we were able to discover the dependencies through Elements, I was able to find that we had 75 fields we didn’t need anymore. I was able to clean up, get rid of those fields. And it’s not so much for saving space, but also made our org much easier to understand and more clean.

My favourite features about Elements are, I started with the process mapping because I adopted Elements early on. And I thought, well, this is pretty cool because you can organize processes into hierarchies and therefore you can diagram as complex as processes you want. I thought that was pretty awesome. But then Elements came along with the org documentation or dependencies and I thought that was really awesome. And that really motivated me to try Jira integration.
